Question Installation problem (readline)

Hi,

I've just downloaded Mutella 0.4.1 and tried to install it. The configure-script stops with the message:

configure: error: You must have readline library!

But I have got the readline lib!

"rpm -q readline" shows:
readline-4.2-28

"locate readline" shows:
/lib/libreadline.so.4
/lib/libreadline.so.4.2
/usr/include/mysql/readline.h
/usr/share/doc/packages/bash/readline.html
/usr/share/info/readline.info.gz
/usr/share/vim/vim60/indent/readline.vim
/usr/share/vim/vim60/syntax/readline.vim

What should I do?

Thanks, Thomas

try to find where you have your readline headers ('locate readline.h'). Or it might be that you have to install 'readline-devel.rpm' or something like that, that is a development package.

Regards,
Max

Same problem here.

Readline is installed so is readline-devel.

readline.h is in /usr/share/readline/readline.h

Any suggestions as to what I should try now?

readline library is dependent on other libraries, those can be different for different distributions, but most likely what you need is one (to be exact -- two RPMs) of those:

ncurses, ncurses-devel
curses, curses-devel
termcap (never seen an RPM for linux)

Default confirmation

I had the same problem in Mandrake 9.1. I was able to kludge together a solution. Mandrake ships with ncurses 5.3, but the devel package is nowhere to be found. I downloaded RH9's ncurses-devel to go with it (whaddya know. When I used Redhat, all I could find were Mandrake RPMS for what I needed.), and I seem to have got it working.

hi
I simply had the same problem on an old redhat 6.2 based system.

fact in the background was that autoconf did a bad job and resulted in errors for readline-test-calls telling me "too many arguments for readline()".

anyway...

reading the docs helps

mutella requires GNU readline 4.2 - well the current version according to www.gnu.org is 4.3 - I simply grabbed the tarball and installed it:
ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/readline-4.3.tar.gz

(you know - configure - make - make install) and since then - mutella also works...

ps. it's a real pain in the *** to have ot register the whole procedure just in order to be able to help on an open forum...
