Absolutely no luck connecting with windows

So get this... :bangh:
* I've done my best to read all the readme files,
* I've tried disabling my firewalls,
* I've created my own "NAPS-urlcache.txt file" with a list of gwcache servers
but it can't make even ONE connection.

Here's what it does in the log file:
L4 | Thu Mar 29 13:39:49 2007 (866 ms) | ConnectionMaintainer | Trying to add a new connection.
L4 | Thu Mar 29 13:39:49 2007 (866 ms) | ConnectionMaintainer | Adding a connection failed.

NOTE: The Readme.txt file for the Windows installation is outdated. It refers to things that just don't exist, like:
* "You should have two directories created to store your files, "downloads" and "done"." - I had to create these myself
* "You will need to copy the supplied file called "NAPS-urlcache.txt" to your ".napshare" settings directory, or put it in the same directory as napshare was started from." - There is NO supplied file by that name.
* "A sample "NAPS-urlcache.txt" file is on the home page." - NO there's not!
* "Click on "Config" in the upper left hand box to get the Configuration Screen, then select your downloads and done directories." - My version of Napshare 2.2.4 doesn't have 'Config' anywhere.

Please help! I'm desperately trying to get it working!:bangh: :bangh: :bangh:

I'm not sure, but did you try to paste the urls given in this post into a text file and name it as described and place it into the correct directory?

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=20669

I am absolutely not familiar with that program, and although after reading what is available about it I have to make a guess. As for the text file,....it is linked on the website, but unfortunately I get a network error timeout when trying to access it.

Sorry, that I can't be of more help at this stage.

Thanks for your help, but, yes, I did paste that very list of servers:
"* I've created my own "NAPS-urlcache.txt file" with a list of gwcache servers "

The servers I pasted in that file were from the link you just gave me.

You can try a more up-to-date list of caches.....take a look here:

http://gcachescan.jonatkins.com/

Of course, it is also possible that you have a firewall configuration problem.
And if this also is of no help for you, follow this link and scroll down to the end of the page, where you will find a contact address that might be helpful in solving your problem.

Thanks for all your attempts at assistance - I do believe I have tried that link to more cache servers - but I think there's a bit more room for me to try fiddling with my firewall, even though I did try it with the firewall disabled.

In fact, I've had it. As we speak I'm busy fiddling with Ares (which was written in Delphi and is open source) to see if I can get it to do what I want. Unlike NapShare, Areas actually functions - but doesn't do what I wanted NapShare to do - to provide it a list of things I want it to download - I've been scouring the net for over a week now - have encountered 2 solutions - both of them for unix, and I can't seem to emulate them in windows. Finally I found napshare which works on windows - but it *cough* doesn't work on windows.

Thanks for your help, I'll try keep you posted on my further attempts.
