I would be really nice if you could 'link' things in LimeWire.
So for example a Mirror Site could link to a file in LimeWire

limewire://SEARCH=content.zip&CRC=1223213

I guess there are various technical issues, but I think it would be very useful.

Well, in 2.5 you'll have to use the SHA-1 hash and not the CRC and you'll have to enter the SHA-1 hash manually.

so 2.5 is going to support limewire urls?

Not urls, - hashes. But yes, you will be able to enter a search for a hash and start a wishlist downloader, so LimeWire would download the file once it finds a host offering it.

well it seems a logical step to implement URLs next

Well, really all that would require is the ability to send commands to limewire from another program (your web browser) and allow LimeWire to act as a helper application for your web browser. i.e. when you type limewire://SEARCH="program.zip"&CRC="52627245" it would open up LimeWire and run the search. Sort of like when you type "telnet://www.google.com" it opens your telnet client and goes to that URL.
