The annotation dialog is hard to use.

It lets you enter more than 30 characters for title, and seems to accept it, but after pressing Refresh button, the title is truncated to 30 characters.

The title text field should keep the user from entering more than 30 characters in the first place.

I found that the LimeWire annotation information corresponds to the WinAMP File Info ID3v1.

I think it would be better to correspond to the WinAMP File Info ID3v2 because this doesn't have the 30 character limits on fields like Title and Comment, and also includes some additional useful fields.

Also, I don't think Seconds and BitRate should be editible. WinAMP derives these values by examining the file. That is logical - it saves the user the trouble of maintaining that redundant data and eliminates the possibility of being inconsistent.

The value of the Gnutella network would be much higher if the files were better annotated.

LimeWire's current annotation dialog needs to be improved. The fields are too short (only 30 characters for title and comment?), and it is not compatible with more advanced standard used by WinAMP.

Annotation is also important for media library organizers like Windows XP's Media Player. It uses the annotation meta data to create the different hierarchical views (artist -> album -> song).

However LimeWire's annotation tool doesn't cut it. I edit the meta data using WinAMPs File Info dialog and Windows XP's Media Player.

However, I'm not sure the Gnutella network will utilized the ID3v2 in its searches and display of individual items.
