For what I believe you are referring to with "person to person" file transfers, it is very simple to do now with both BearShare and Gnucleus. It is called Direct Connecting.
I am sorry, but I am not familiar enough with LimeWire, after version 1.8, to make any comments..... Although, I am sure it was possible in the older versions of LW.
Direct Connecting is very simple. If you wish more info, send me a PM. I have not yet discussed with anyone here as to whether or not they would like to see a thread on the subject of Direct Connecting.

Now we can wait to see who comes in here with a reply declaring that Direct Connecting is harmful to the Network.
There are usually a few who do not understand and have real emotional problems about Direct Connects!
