Right, when LimeWire first did ultrapeers it caused odd things to happen to search results. These problems were fixed rather quickly with updated versions. |
I would have to agree that I have been running into problems with other ultrapeers besides limewire. Ever since the new releas of morp, gn... I have been swamped with them as ultrapeers. Even if the number of hosts are n' correct with poeple using things other than limwire, my results frokm searching drop considerablly., When my limwire ultrahosts drop off and I only have others I can't find a thing of the network but when I ditch them by manually removing them I miracluously are able to find things with limewire hosts. Maybe a way to limit what program people connnecting to you use as a basis for filtering... |
Filter them out The ingenous programmers at limewire have done an excellent job in making this little proggie totally user configurable. If you dont like having a morpheus or other host on your system ... filter them out... Tools > Options > Filters > Hosts ... type in their IP and viola. |
IPs As a matter of testing I watched my contacted hosts list for a time, about 10 minutes, and wrote down some IP addresses of those that "Leafed" under me who did not use limewire ... I filtered them, and now, all I have are limewire leaves and ultrapeers ... food for thought. The morpheus IP's are as follows: 212.125.177.199, 67.68.227.3, 212.181.172.82, 66.66.54.158, 66.67.112.109, 66.64.228.34, 24.77.65.5, 63.208.116.60, 172,168.9.38, 65.128.174.125, 66.20.71.38. There are some others ... but that got rid of all the Morpheus folks for me. Personally, I like to share so I'll be unblocking the IPs. Gnutella only works if we all share. |
Batch Host Filtering? When Morpheus ansd Gnucleus are connected to my servent my results are weak, but when Limewire is connected It seems fine. I would hope something could be done to batch filter the hosts, rather than typing in individual IP addresses. It seems like a waste of time as well... IP's can change, vendors won't! |
Staticly Dynamic Venders do change ... Morpheus us a perfect example. Ultrappers are required to be connected to 6 other ultrappers when they have leaves under them ... I never seem to make 6 connections with other lime wire users ... I always end up with Morpheus, Bearshare, or some other ultrappers ... was that the jist of the origional posts? The only thing that I've seen that remotely works is to filter the non-limewire ultrapper ip's. That's sorta the problem with open source.... sometimes it works too well. |
Keeping LimeWire from connecting to Gnucleus/Morpheus ultrapeers is a simple task if you compile LimeWire yourself, but I don't believe it's helpful at all. |
