Not as good as Direct connect (PC) Have a look at Direct connect, it's much bigger and better! but not as good looking as Lime.... How about making Lime as good? |
Direct Connect is not nearly as good as gnutella. Although it might have more content (and the amount of shared files is depending only on the users) it lack vital features like swarming. The main problem of DirectConnect is, that it's centralized and it can be shut down very easily. |
I love Limewire really!!! Are you saying that if more people used Limewire it could have as good a content as Direct connect? |
Nope, if more people would share files, then LimeWire would give you as good results as DC does. Currently 30% of all gnutella users aren't sharing any files at all and many of the others are only sharing very few files. |
I know I keep going on.... I know I keep going on about D C but they seem to have a mininum file share limit before you can join a connection. Is that not possable on Lime wire? |

With gnutella it's even worse. There are literally dozens of different clients and many of them are either not developed anymore or their developers aren't even willing to adopt to those rules, so I think no, it's not possible. There'll always be anti-social people on the network, not sharing any files or spamming the network with queries. |
I understand your point about a minimum number of shared files, but still... Some of my friends have no idea how to generate their own content. If they can't download because they're not sharing, and they're not sharing because they can't download, how would a minimum number of shared files help the network? |
Easy to say how Gnutella Dev. can push the people to share!!!! Build the client so when other's clients connect, if the connecting people don't share enought or don't give enought BW to the net they are stuck to low level performance. Don't Share? I give you only 1/2 kB/s of content (so you pay in time what you save don't sharing) and always serve you after the sharing people (maybe also I say you why) If one have not big share, demote it on the queue. Maybe divide GB/time waiting, so more you share less you wait. Bottom line. DC is more elitist because it allow few leecheers, but it work. |
I would like to thank the starter of this post for giving me another tool for file sharing. To be onest with you ive been using Direct connect for 4 days so far and basically For me it has everything that i need. 1. Can chat with other hosts 2. Browse function for every user 3. No stupid errors after 6 hrs of downloading to get at 89% and Limewire to decide O yea i cant move this to ure libraray so tough (most infuriating thing ever) 4. LOts and i mean LOTS more content i was very suprised when i first logged on at how much people was sharing and i was like wow and only just able to scrape 5gb of actual shareable files 5. No Requery (which doesnt work at ALL) There are of course disadvantages: 1. No swarming (but about 5 times limewire has merged two files i.e evangelion episode 2 start download and when i come back its changed to evangelion episode 3 cause they was same size) obviously when i opened it just didnt work GRRRR 2.Not connected to multiple hosts (altho limewire hosts never seem to have anything i want at all unless i came across a Morpheous 1.8.... supernode which i have seen 4 times ( got 5 times more results than before connecting to it) O well i suppose it did turn into a rant but im just saying ill keep limewire as a second backup P2p now and use Direct connect cause i find it much more useful sorry. O yea Number 3 caused me to try DC because it was very annnoying and i thought well what chances of i actually getting things on limewire with all these stupid bugs ( i havent seen any of these bugs so far on DC probably are some but not as bad as LW) |
