Find more sources button

I think the "Find Source" button should be avilable all the time!
I give a scenario for what i mean.

I start a download where the Limewire only find 1 source for. Let's say this source is from a modem. Later i decide that this connection is to slow and want to search for more sources (the more a user waits the better are the chanses that more sources pop up!)
As it is now when a download have been initialized then the "find source" button is not available but if it is availabe a user could press this button and when more sources are find the current download will be finished faster!!!

I don't think so. If it were available all the time some people would push it all the time.

cool

Have you even though about what you wrote???

My suggestion will actually reduce the trafic since as it is now i get pissed and search againg and sometimes for the artist. But with this button the users don't need to search that much!!!

Also it could be implemented in a way that when the source count is at 1 the software automatically searched for more resources.
Or it could have a timeout. I mean when you push it the button get's disabled for 10sec or so.....

And i don't understand what you mean by users will push it all the time. SO WHAT? isn't this software suppose to search and download??? The usibility should be nr1 i think.

And It's not good to just say this is not a good feature and not even give it a thought! As you can see on my exampels there are many ways to have this button and make a great program even greater. And this is the purpose of this forum section i think......

The problem with allowing easy unlimited (or automated) re-searching is that the network becomes filled with too much noise. If there is too much information flowing through the networ, then the initial search (and any subsequent searches) won't be as useful. If you've ever seen the movie "A Beautiful Mind" (to use a popular example), it's exactly like the theory that John Nash proposed -- what's best for the individual is also (or closely tied to) what's best for the group.

It is vitally important that results arrive quickly to any user-initiated search. It is not as important to have them arrive later. Everyone asking for something all the time would hurt both goals, whereas keeping quiet helps both.

Yes I have, and Gnutella's ultrapeers don't really have the bandwidth left to handle a lot more queries - especially since the effectiveness of "find more sources"-queries is rather low.

mmm

Ok, i didn't know that there were such a limitation on the bandwidth!
How does Kazza work? isn't it also p2p? It seem it is much faster and it downloads faster as well!!!

Is there a possibility to upgrade the bandwidth or? I just want to learn :)

Thanks....

Kazaa works roughly the same way but the Fasttrack network is a lot larger. The probability that you run out of sources during a download is lower.

cool

Sorry for the stupid question but isn't it possible to upgrade? Seems like the current network seems a little outdated maybee?

trap_jaw4 January 13th, 2004 05:29 PM

What do you mean upgrade? It won't improve your download experience upgrading anything if there just aren't enough available download sources in the network.

Really, upgrade. Like what?`The protocol is already under constant development but so far nobody came up with the magic algorithm to increase everybody's bandwidth by 500% and make everybody and his dog share more files....
