Check all Shared folders for duplicates on download

My computer initially was built with a number of small-sized (relatively speaking, especially in these days of 200GB hard drives) hard drives, so I've set up a number of different shared directories across these drives and have LW share files from those directories. I'm constantly moving files from the default download directory into these shared directories on the different drives, as I'm constantly running out of room under the default download dir (and quite honestly, I don't have much room to maintain a default download dir on any of my drives).

Currently, when downloading a file, if the file already exists in the default download dir, LimeWire will prompt as to whether you wish to overwrite the file or cancel. I'm constantly finding that I'm downloading duplicates/triplicates of files, as I'll move them out of the default download dir and into another shared dir, but LW doesn't check against these other shared dirs for duplicates.

Is it possible to get LW to check against all shared dirs for duplicate files when downloading (or attempting to DL) from a source? It would be a great help, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's set up multiple shared dirs who would find this feature of great benefit.

Thanks for making such a great product and keep up the teriffic work!:D

That sounds like a great idea! Also, blacklisting a set of files with certain SHA1 digests might be nice, in case I want to block downloads of certain files, but not keep those files on my HD.

We're looking into such a feature for the next version.

Total sweetness, almost as good as a peach cobbler. But um, are you looking into the checking against all shared dirs feature, or blocking of certain SHA1 files in a shared dir, or both, for the next version? (And just out of curiosity, if it's the former, had you intended on doing this originally or did I manage to spurn your creative programming juices flowing?)

Thanks again! LW Rulez!

We had spoken earlier in the day about checking against all the shared files, and also checking for certain SHA1s is a good idea too.

Which upcoming beta?

OK, I originally wrote this post back when 3.8.x was still in beta. 3.8.x has gone final and a new beta version, 3.9.x has been announced. I don't see LW performing this feature or, if it is, perhaps it's not quite working, as I'm still downloading files into my default download dir and, when I get around to consolidating some of the files and re-saving them into the different drive partitions I have set up, I'm finding lots of duplicates.

Any word on when this code will make it into the LW program?

The 3.9 beta series is going to have multiple updates with new things added in each one.
