New Search Engine For Limewire

The Limewire search sucks really bad.........

Honestly, I dont know why you guys even put a place for an artist when it doesnt even use it.
----------------------------------------------------------
For instance:

I Did a search for:

Title: Crazy Train
Artist: Ozzy osbourne

Results came up like this:

P diddy feat. mario Winans - I dont wanna know
Metallica - Enter sandman
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Ozzy - Bark at The Moon
Megadeth - Holy Wars
Ozzy osbourne - Sweet leaf

-----------------------------------------------------------

so WTF!!??

How the hell did it come up with P. diddy when I put ozzy osbourne in the artist slot. You guys should really re-build the ENTIRE search engine

-----------------------------------
Im using LimeWire Pro 4.04

-----------------------------------

ONE MORE PROBLEM

Limewire flashes a Gray screen every once in a while (the whole limewire window turns flashes gray real quick)

Is This what I paid For?

The LimeWire search engine depends on the meta information in the ID3 tags, and people are unbelievably sloppy about correctly labelling files. The fact that some spurious results are returned is NOT the fault of LimeWire. You should be happy that it returned hits for you were looking for and not complain about a little "noise", which happens with only some searches.

Glad you are enjoying LimeWire.

I tend to agree; but in the mean time, I found out that if I type a keyword in the "Video" box, and leave the "Type" box blank, I get the results I want and nothing else. For instance, I just typed in "lacuna coil" (w/o the "), and within 1 minite, I got 13 results...all Lacuna Coil.

I do think searches should be based on the filename, not the ID3 tag or metadata.

Many people appear to label their MP3 files with trackname only, ie "03 Summertime.mp3", so if LimeWire only used that, it search results would be much more limited and imprecise; you couldn't search for music by a given artist or from a specific album.

To repeat: As a search engine, LimeWire will never be any better than the quality of the data (in terms of organization) that is offered on Gnutella. That is why it is important that the ID3 tags are filled out correctly. I also think it is useful but to include the artist's name in the filename, but I seem to be in the minority. Have you ever browsed someone's machine whose MP3 files labelled by song title only? A nightmare!

I didn't say anything about searching for just the song title.

Just try it for yourself, type "lacuna coil" (w/o the ") in the Any Type box, and see what you come up with.

um...ok

regardless, im not complaining, I just think the search engine is weak, never had this problem with kazaa.

You must not be using LimeWire correctly. I tried the same search: the song "crazy train" by "ozzy osbourne". LW returned 239 hits, only ONE was spurious, the song "you can't kill rock and roll". (I couldn't fit all the hits in the screen shot, but you will have to take my word that all the others displayed below were the same song, including a remix with Madonna).

I have never used Kazaa so I can't compare, but I think this is pretty darn good.

You misunderstood. My searches for "Any Type", "Audio", and "Images" are pretty accurate, but searching for "Video" is a nightmare. I just did a music video search for Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie...448 hits, none of which were Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie. Yet the same search in the "Any Type" box revealed 16 hits for the Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie music video.

Well, the best way to cmpare the two is to download it, and try it.

The thing is that UPs deal differently with searches on gnutella than supernodes on kazaa. This has both advantages and disavantages. Sure it would be practical to be able to search with " " the get exact expression or something like that. This has been discussed by LW devs but nothing was found as a right implmentation for now.

Different systems, different + and -. But Kazaa sure now is scrapped compared to a year ago. Gnutella is now much better, but nothing is perfect . There might be (are) adjustements to be made.

Thanks but no thanks. I don't do Windows. LimeWire is Java, right? That means it runs on a whole bunch of other platforms. There is a whole world waiting for you out there beyond M$.
