Two suggestions

I've been using LimeWire since the beginning of the year and have seen a lot of improvement of the programme - and Gnutella in general. But there are two features that I really miss:

1. The ability to easily redo searches. I constantly find myself entering the same search phrases over and over again, and I have to keep track of the files I want to find on a piece of paper (or a text file) because LimeWire has no mechanism for remembering and redoing the searches. I believe this kind of saving information and repeating the same actions over and over again really should be a computers job.

2. Easily resume broken downloads. The recent versions of LimeWire has some ability to resume downloads, but it only works for files/servers already on the Downloads list. Usually, for all the files in the Incomplete folder I have to copy their filename, paste it into the Search field, strip of the file size, wait for the search to complete, browse through the search results looking for a file with the same name and size and try to download that file. Again, I think this really should be automated.

File sharing with LimeWire has improved much with the latest releases, but it still involves a work and attention finding and downloading files, and keeping track of how many connections and hosts you've got to optimise your searches.

Here are some possible solutions to my two suggestions:

1. Make the search field a combined text box and drop down box much like the address field in Internet Explorer. You can then enter your search phrase in the text box or select one of your previous searches from the drop down list. This is so obvious I don’t know why it wasn’t implemented in Napster a long time ago. In Internet Explorer you can even choose to delete individual phrases from the drop down list to avoid it getting filled with unwanted phrases.

2. On the Library tab, put a Resume Download button next to each file in the Incomplete folder which performs a search for files with the same name and size and tries to download it. I see that TruStarwarrior is suggesting something similar in another resent thread.

This might not be the ultimate solution, but it should be fairly easy to implement and will make LimeWire much easier to use while an even more advanced and automated solution to finding and downloading files is developed.

downloads

I like #2 a lot, better than my file/oppen solution. Perhaps a tab "incomplete, so you could just double click on the selection.

Resuming downloads is easy: it does it automatically.

As long as the filename and file size are very close, it will automatically resume that download. I think LimeWire has gotten better resume download than it has before.

But, I like the idea of an 'incomplete' tab ... perhaps a place to view partial downloads, and have LimeWire automatically search for compatible files to finish the download from.

As far as the remembering past searches: EXCELLENT idea. I would like to see that as well. Or, even if they don't do that 'past searches' drop down menu, they could add a right-click feature to the search tabs that can do a 'research' or something.
