Port Search

Why not have a function within LW for doing a public port search; ie: if port 6346 appears to be blocked, then it systematically searches thru the other possible ports of use. And/OR have a button on that page that does a manual search.

This could not only be a valuable tool to those behind routers, etc. for example but also those connecting within an institution of some sort.

Port Search

Hi, Lord of the Rings

I'm not so keen on the idea of a port search, hackers use such tools to find vulnerable PCs to infect with their viruses and Trojans.

Although I can see why you want such a facility, I can’t help but feel that this could help to undermine home users PC security and stability. Having “port search”, on the surface, seems like a good idea but such a facility can only add to the tools used by miscreants.

Thanks for the insight. Good answer. But there's some normally blocked to keep those people out. I'm refering to the higher numberred ports. I guess I should add that I don't know much about this area so your answer may have put my suggestion in its place. Strike 3.
