"Find more sources for download"

It works great with Kazaa lite. I think it would make Limewire the best program if it had the "find more sources for download" option. It speeds up downloads significantly by finding more sources for the download.

In K-Lite, you right click the current download and you just click it repeatedly and your download speeds up. All in favor of this option post here.

thanks.

True.

True. True. Works a treat in kazaa, if only had the same tool in limewire.

exactly, my friend, who is also my neighbor has K-Lite and we ran a test.

We both downloaded the same video that was a 1MB in size from a T1 user. I used Limewire and he used K-Lite. My top speed was 25 and his with the "find more sources for download" was 125!

We both have the same connection, and our programs are configured as close as they can get. And he downloaded the movie in 1 hour and it took me about 5 hours.

This can really bring joy to LimeWire users.

BTW: some of you I know are like "well then switch to K-Lite" I dont like it, I never did like Kazaa, and I just dont like it. I LOVE the download speeds, but hate the program.

I wanna hear what Lord of the Rings has to say about this.

Who me? lol :D

You can do pretty much the same thing by manually searching for more sources. OK it's different. But it can have the same effect.

IMHO: Your suggestion sounds good, but I'm not sure what effect it would have on the Gnutella traffic which is why LW has steered away from using techniques that add loads of xtra traffic. Doing so would slow the netwrk down for everybody & also cause traffic problems with UP's & particularly large networks. The idea sounds good but I've never had any experience with those apps you mentioned.

tell me how you manually search for more sources please.

another thing I just thought of and I would like Mods to comment on this:

Limewire advertises that it has faster downloads than Kazaa, but thats not true because of the fact that Kazaa has the "find more sources for download" option and Limewire doesnt. So basically, Limewire doesnt have faster downloads than Kazaa.

Now I understand that if you were to add this option to Limewire, the server would be slowed down and the traffic would be insane, but If their is a possibitlity to reverse those problems, add this app and Limewire will now be faster than Kazaa.

jut my opinion.

To manually search for more sources, simply put the file-name into the search field and search again.

Finding More Sources

This is my only complaint with Limewire. Well, my only real complaint. I don't see how adding "finding more sources"/faster downloads would tie up the system more. Actually, I'd be finished my downloads sooner, thereby clearing more room and space for others to seek, search, and choose. I hated Kazaa with all its different pronounciations of its name, all the spyware, the pop-ups, and the way it just killed my computer; BUT I sure loved that "find more sources" button/option. Downloads went from an estimated time of 20 minutes to being completely downloaded and done in 2-3 minutes.

I know the brilliant minds at Limewire aren't going to let those money grubbing geeks at Kazaa one up them. Matter of fact, I'm sure they'll find a way for Limewire to automatically search out and "find more sources" automatically so we don't even have to concern ourselves with it.

I've selected files for download and its taken days and weeks for that file to come through. Hell, I have so many incomplete files from files not getting a chance to download they were taking so long.

Finding More Sources is by far the most important feature to be added in future releases of this outstanding P2P. Even without it, Limewire is the best there is, but you don't become the best and start to rest, you work even harder to keep the title.

I have an idea, how it could be done transparently for the User:
When selecting "Find More Sources", LimeWire could open a new Search with the file-name (but replacing with spaces every "-", "_", ".", and all those other fill signs, as if the user just started that search, and with at most 5 words (so that long filenames don't create rare searches, where the searches could also be simple and give more results).

Then every User could see, what LimeWire does, and it could do the "one query an hour", which the system should be able to bear.

It would be even more efficient (but also more complicated) if LimeWire checked all downloads, if there are words, which appear in more than one of them (as if a search would come in, which means, that it doesn't matter, if the last three letters really fit).
Then it could automatically search for these words, as long as they don't appear in more than 6 of the files. Else it could do the check again for those containing the word, so some files get grouped in searches fitting at most 6 files (while others are being done via normal requery).

It could even create a loop, in which searches "with more downloads" get searched for more often (but still only one search per hour, so others would simply get stalled).

This would create a great reason to leave LimeWire running night and day, thus making more sources avaible.
