Ability to install at all

It'd be nice if Limeware 1.7 was able to install under Mac OS 9.x at all. Yeah, I know this is probably not the right forum to gripe about it in, but seeing as that I need the gnutella access for some work filesharing stuff, I'm willing to do handstands to get coders' attention to this.

Did you try installing LimeWire1.7? This is the current version available on our web site. It's only been available for about two days, so if you downloaded before that, it was probably 1.6d or below.

LimeWire 1.7 includes a significantly modified installer for the Mac that may work for you if you were not already using it.

Unfortunately, yes. I had no problems installing 1.6. But then I removed it to install 1.7, and boom, no more Limewire for me.
