Comment for each file

Having the option to place comments for each file. Therefore, people who are downloading it can be warned if this file is really what the title says it is to be.

just delete those fake/currupt/garbage files so you can stop sharing those files with others. this would help clean up the waters in gnutella.

This does not solve the problem as some people are lazy and just leave the crappy files in their shared folders. And there will always be other people who will upload crap to the database.

I'm not just referring to small corrupt files I'm also talking about downloading 1 gig or higher movie files. And if these file are in .avi format then you can't preview them as they are being downloaded unlike .mpg files.

If there could be a feature where you can post up comments and allow these comments to be viewable for all people who want to download that file just like the forum here, then others can warn people before they start downloading these crappy files.

I know there is already a feature to chat with the host when your downloding from them. But who actually uses this feature anyway? And when has the host every replied to your messages anyhow?

So maybe if you can get rid of this feature and replace it with posted comments, it would be used more often and provide a more enhanced downloading experience for everyone.

This sounds all great but how do you ensure the comments are correct and valid? Malicious organizations and individuals could use it to pollute the network with false information!

And where do you store the comments? Neither you as the author of a comment nor the hosts of the file are trustworthy. Both ends can manipulate their clients and promise heaven on earth. We need an 3rd entity! A single entity is maybe trustworthy but cannot handle the load of an entire P2P network. One solution is to use the P2P network itself as an entity which is "tricky" (comment and file must be linked somehow, the data must be distributed equally in the network so that nobody is flooded with comments, make sure nobody can comment a file twice etc. etc.) and to be honest I dunno if I and others are interested in wasting CPU cycles for your comments!? :)

Anyway, checkout this:

The request, "a feature and a place to store those comments exist". This "new" feature you want is an "old" feature that has been around. It is called "BITZI". Millions of files have been researched and commented on. It is located on the right button of your mouse when you highlight a file you may be interested in. If the file is not in the database there, why not become involved. Download the Bitcollider software and contribute your comments. I highly endorse the program and so does LimeWire or they wouldn't have given us the opportunity to link to it.
