File Size filter search...

You can find this in Kazaa where in the search criteria you specify a minimum file size to search for... meaning when search for a file that file should be at least the file size you have set...

This will be helpful in limiting the results displayed and for more speedy file search...

This will be a good addition to LimmWire...

File Size Filter

I strongly agree with you on this one, and is actually the reason I came to the forums. I don't understand why there are so few filtering options in LW.

I've had a brief look at Phex and they seem to have higher and lower size filters...although I think they filter the results after the search is complete (It could do with some instructions though) :)

I resubscribe :D

Size Filter

Guys

This request for a size filter is not new and, as far as I know, it has come up at least half a dozen times over the past year. However, for some reason I can't quite understand, the LW programmers have always thumbed their noses at this suggestion.

You would have thought that the continuing plague of spam and viruses all wrapped up in small files would have made them change their minds, but so far that has not been the case.

I would hope that a LW programmer reading this would take the time to explain, in layman terms, why size filters can't be incorporated in LW.

I am in complete agreement with you.

It is absolutely imperative that a file size filter be incorporated into this program posthaste.

If the developers don't put the filter in, you can always just organize the search results by size. Have the file size go from large to small so the spam files will be out of sight in most cases.

that is a perfectly good point, ...

but doesn't address one point, which is that sometimes there are so many junk/spam etc results that there is no room for the genuine results to appear at all, and it really is necessary to filter these results out before they get to our screens in the first place.

I do agree with all of you, the file size filter would be a very good idea. It was just a suggestion for people until that feature either does exist, or if that feature never exists to try organizing their searches. I have found that genuine files appear even when the idiot spammers are present. The search window can display quite a few results. Generally, as a rule of thumb, organize according to what you want to download. For video clips, the larger the size, the more likely it is the clip you are looking for. For music, bitrate is what to look for. Normally, spam links won't display a bitrate. :D

OH hey this has been my no. 1 request for about a year or so & repeated. And why or y does it take a thous' & 1 to ask the same thing to become reality. My 1st request: Xtra search option (click on link) & my 3rd: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ize+and+filter

Does this mean that the LW programmers have put "size filters" on their "To Do" list or am I just whistling in the wind?

I fully agree with you that this needs to be done immediately!!

There should be several options instituted:

In the preference of the program there should be an option to eliminate from the search outcome files that meet a certain size requirements.

2nd: One should have the ability to highlight several files at once and with one right click of the mouse block all the hosts that have those files.

3rd: If one result shows up but with 36 people that have it, at present we are only able to block one. We need the ability to block all.

I hope LIMEWIRE is reading this!!!

Lets put the class back into this program and give the users what they need.

This should be top priority next to security.

Everyone please voice your opinion and other features that you feel merit Limewire to change

If this was done not only would your computer be safer but it would allow children to download stuff and them not be virus.

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 03:34 AM

I wouldn't let children loose on Limewire. Nothing will stop them coming across porn, violence and anything else that some people consider unsuitable for children. If you are ok with your kids getting their hands on all the stuff available on the Gnutella network, then, let them use it by all means.

Random__111 November 14th, 2005 05:36 AM

Please see my tread named The Poll To End All Polls and vote so limewire can see wat we really want

Lord of the Rings November 14th, 2005 06:07 AM

Where's the link to it? OK got it http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=48353
Yep not a bad poll. Nice list but a lot for the LW proggies to cover.

Not as far as I know. They need a kick to get their priorities in the right direction. lol :D

Also tell people to vote on it cause it is good

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 06:12 AM

You clearly have the whole thing thought out, so, since Limewire is open source, you should make the necessary adjustments, and release Random Wire. Good luck.

Random__111 November 14th, 2005 12:09 PM

Trust me if i had a team of programmers i would create a p2p filesharing prog but unfortunanly i don't know jack bout programming

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 01:47 PM

Well on the File size filter ... it has been asked for and asked for forever and the programmers have always finished up shoving it under the carpet. I'm no programmer either, but I feel absolutely certain that, there has to be a way to do this.

Dunno how you do a porn filter without previewing the file first.

Nor a virus filter ... but you seem to have some knowledge of something that might work.

ip banning is Laughable in Limewire. I think in Phex if you ban multiple hosts carrying any sort of junk, that ALL of them get banned. This would be a VERY good start in Limewire.

Two host filters should be employed. One for personal bannings. and another for Virus spreaders etc. This should be updated for all users automatically by a central source.... which leads to the question .."what source?"

As for Banning Kiddie Porn Peddlars. They should be reported to the relevant authorities. They will not be pedding their filth for long after that.

newbee2 November 12th, 2006 05:12 PM

Got to agree with all sensible ideas above, especially as a '' Rash '' of spam and junk and viri (is that the right term) have appeared very recently on LWire, and also the mass blocking option for spam multiples, couldnt it be an option on setup to Download from limewire site, when you buy?
N2:)
PS just resubscribed as really like LW (Didn't see a discount tho ! LOL )
