Implement a cache!!! When I'm downloading with about 400-500K's a sec my machine freezes, and it's not the case when I'm downloading at the same speed with bitCommet.
So I think high d/l speed is a problem with LimeWire.
Implementing a cache is not so difficult I think ..

If your machine freezes, then its not limewires fault, your computer can't handle that high of a load, put a limiter on.
