Kiddy Pr0n

Child pornography is such a serious issue on the internet today. I would love to see a program such as LimeWire do some research into a child pornography filter. I am not the most technologically literate person, but I do realise that this would be an immensely difficult job. However, I think it would be worth it. If there is some, or anyway of filtering out users who share child pornography files or who search for child pornography files, then it would help even just that tiny bit.

I realise that it wouldn't take long for those sick people who enjoy this type of pornography to find a way around these filters, but every little step counts. If you could be booted off the network for typing in kiddie porn into the search form, then this would be some sort of a start.

I am not here to present answers to this problem, because I can't. I am here to request the help of some upstanding internet users who care for the welfare of abused children, and for the welfare of the mentally-ill people who enjoy the abuse of these children. I may sound cheesey and emotional, but only because I am when it comes to this issue (it has hit too close to home too many times before).

Please, I beg of anyone who reads this post, jump on the bandwagon. I want answers. I want to know what can be done. Join me in doing all we can to stop this.

Thank you for your time,

Hamish

It seems to me that the best way to deal with these people, who fall somewhere at the bottom of the pile of filth that are not seen as decent people, even by the average criminal, is to report their ip addresses to the relevant authorities.

Banning or filtering them from searches on Gnutella, which can only really be done individually, and cannot really filter the content of files that are otherwise named might stop you getting their downloads, but it will not stop them peddling their filth, which they can do in hundreds of ways.

A simple question for a newish user... How would I go about getting the IP address of these people? I would love to report them...

Only A Hobo November 6th, 2005 01:49 PM

When you seach in Limewire, in the search results window there is a column "location" If this is not showing right click on the bar at the top of the columns and tick "location". also go to more options> extended tool tips and if that is ticked, when you hover over location if it says "multiple" tou will see the different ip numbers.

It occurs to me you are going to have to download some of this muck before you know what it is, and it is very unwise to keep even a bit of it on your computer, as If it is found there you will be presumed guilty Bear theat in mind Please!

dham86 November 6th, 2005 02:30 PM

whenever i have downloaded it, i downloaded enough to know what it is and as soon as i realise, i delete it...
i hope that is enough...
and i hope that i can start reporting IP addresses if i ever stumble across anymore
thanks a million!

hmm When you delete stuff on your computer it does actually stay on the computer until, at some time or other something gets loaded on top of it. I believe it is possible to completely delete things, and also know that it is possible to retrieve things, sometimes, that have been deleted. I'm not sure of the details, nor do I want to alarm you, but I thought I should just make you aware of the facts as clearly as I know them.

Take Care

Thank you for your concern and for your help on this matter. I will definitely look into properly deleting things off my computer with that information...

Thanks again and all the best

6x.1x9.199.x:6346

someone should check into and report the files being shared by 6x.1x9.199.x:6346 located in Wilton, Conn. they are labeled as sick / illegal files

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 06:22 AM

If you have information ... use it ....

Lord of the Rings November 14th, 2005 06:42 AM

If the files are labelled that way, then nobody in their right mind would downld them. It's not as though they're mislabelled. (Sorry you can't post ip's on the forum ... it's against forum rules. We need to be consistent.)

Keep in mind Quality of Content on the Network

As Only A Hobo suggested, if they're sharing kiddie porn then you can report it. Depending upon your country & which country they're from as to who you report it to. But be sure it's kiddie porn & not just porn. Sharing porn is not illegal per se but depends upon local & national laws, & isp rules.

Problems

not everything labelled as kiddie or underage porn is actually that i was downloading some so i could report the ip adresses and to check i previewed it and was wasnt kiddie porn and some others ive downloaded since werent either so if you are going to report ips check it is actually kiddie porn first

massillonmarine November 16th, 2005 08:52 PM

How do you accidently fall into some kiddie porn? That sounds laughable to me. I download alot of porn and many types, never fell into kiddie porn ever.

DL444 November 18th, 2005 04:55 AM

When you go to report anything like this please consider-

On default settings you share files as you download them. This means that the person you are about to report has not even finished downloading the file yet and might have no idea what's on it. Someone else might report you, while you were downloading; they downloaded off you, and so on..........

Miss clicked a download, could happen. Asleep at the moment but will be horrified tomorrow when downloads are checked and the file is found.

I think the only way you could be sure is if you browsed host and saw a pile of these types of files.

Zimdale November 28th, 2005 08:20 AM

lol yea thats kinda a backfire beause you have to relize that if you are sharing music and stuff through limewire a lot of times it may be illegal and to report you have to know its child porn which means you have to download it which means if the authorities desired they could look at the dowload history of your ISP and see that you downloaded the child porn and bust you on it too.

Best porn filter

The best porn filter is the downloader. Before you download just look at the title of the object. They are a mile wide using every porn term in the book to catch searches who may use one of the words. If you don't double click on their site you will not get the stuff in your computer. When you brouse into some hosts site and see Hanzel & Grettle eat more than the gingebread house you don't have to download it. It is obvious that it is not one of Kate Smith's songs. Perhaps you should avoid that Host altgether in the future. After all why would you want to associate yourself with the porn king of Columbia just to get a rare song..??

If I am downloading a video I sample it and close the D/L if it is offensive before I wait an hour and have it on my computer.

Zimdale November 29th, 2005 09:34 AM

lol ture thats what I usually figure if ya dont want it what are ya doin downloading it? and the truth of the matter about previewing the files is that umm lotta avi's you cant preview untilll they are fully downloaded. but still most kitty porn are properly marked as kiddy porn....

Morb November 29th, 2005 10:26 AM

Ok here's an idea... Someone hire a really good hacker and hack these sick *******'s computers and fry their hard drive seeing you can get any users IP address. I have downloaded some porn where the filename was mislabeled and I couldn't delete it fast enough! Feels like my hard drive has been infected!

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...milies/007.gif To all you sick pedo's sharing your filth!

such lack of imagination (and its been done already..)

how about this: said ûberhacker instead locks their system down in a manner that totally prevents the owner of the machine from logging back on...call the local authorities, inform them of the infraction, and give them the directions as to how to unlock the computer (yeah, there's an 'easy' way to circumvent this, but I bet most ppl wouldn't be up it)...

Zimdale November 29th, 2005 08:13 PM

pff that idea seems umm fatally ignorant.....umm the big problem would be umm hireing a hacker? thats kinda farfetched......plus no matter what was on their hard drives a hacker whipes it and they get cought, they'd get like 8 years in prisin because someone doesnt wanna see kiddy porn on a p2p program.

I dunno I think the best way to solve it is just not download it or them putting in like a filter where you can filter out certain words form search results.

XDrako December 4th, 2005 08:15 AM

A bit overactive don't you think? Hacking is against the law, and if a case comes when a hacker does manage to find a loophole, every little move he makes is being watched by the authorities. Best chances are to just leave this stuff alone, if there's someone downloading childporn or have a history of it, let the isp's monitor it and report. It's more their job than anyone elses (say someone who was downloading the kiddy porn to find out in the first place?). 9/10 cases, you'll be caught for something too, so it's better to play it safe.

Note: This goes against every privacy policy out there, limewire could be taken down.
