.ogg file format

Seeing as LimeWire is in the spirit of 'open standards', perhaps it should support the .ogg file format natively. Ogg is royalty-free, typically is smaller in size and comparable-if-not-better in quality to mp3.

OGG is king

this is a great idea. I would love to be able to search for ogg rather than mp3 format, and have over 6000 ogg files already for others to search through as well.....

.wma has a nice compression/quality rate too .
BTW do not confuse .wma with .wmv :
.wma = Windows Media Audio
.wmv = Windows Media Video

But there is always a downside ...
.wm* files can be scripted to do things like open websites while playing .

I know .asf video's can do nasty stuff too .
But those are not that common on Gnutella .

Maybe, but some jerks like to rename files, giving them wrong extensions. The Media Player plays them anyway, but if a ASF file is called MPEG, it still is an ASF file.

The fact this is being done by "some" jurks and not "allot" of jurks doesn't make it a big problem .
This hower could become worse in the future ...

Windows or Mac OS ?

For Windows : Get Winamp and look on their site for an OGG Vorbis plugin .
They have several

For Mac OS : Find some player on the net .
Search using keywords : ogg and mac .

ogg player

I did not try Winamp2 with the ogg vorbis plugin. I did try Winamp3 which has ogg support built in.

I had no luck at all with winamp3 it crashed all the time. Instead I got hold of the Ashampoo media player, it works very well.
