SHAring is not caring

Okay I dont want to share on limewire for reasons of my own information. Now i use peerguardian2 will that stop people from accessing my comp?

Lord of the Rings October 4th, 2006 03:23 PM

What it will help prevent is Organisations trying to connect via Port 6346. But leeching the network is not going to make a difference to such access. How about everybody who uses Gnutella suddenly stop sharing. How many files do you think you would find in a search. lol :D

NeWheN October 4th, 2006 03:34 PM

I just have to keep my files provqate to my self i would share if i could thanks LOR

NeWHeN-

I find your avatar- Help End Poverty, Eat The Poor a poor choice. May I suggest you change it to something a little less offensive/repulsive. You may have used it initially as a joke, but poverty is no joke. And the solution your avatar mentions sickens me.

foolofthehill October 7th, 2006 09:50 AM

The user has been informed about the House Rules in regard to his avatar and signature and the necessary steps of him are expected to be taking place a.s.a.p........

I agree with the others about your avatar but I will, hopefully, give you a solution to your "sharing" problem.

First of all, PG2 is not a firewall and cannot block other P2P users from sharing your "sharing folder/directory". PG2 is an IP blocker that blocks government agencies (both domestic and foreign) for gaining access to your PC via port 6346.

Now, if I understand your post correctly and you have private information on your PC that you want to protect, like I do, then you must protect your PC with the followings protection software:

1) Anti-Virus app - This will stop viruses, Trojans, worms form gaining access to your PC.

2) A firewall app - This will stop your PC from being hacked or bots gaining access to your PC.

3) At least two, better with three, anti-spyware apps - This will stop your browser from being hi-jacked, delete keyloggers and others nasties that are not viruses.

There are other protective software around, like Prevx1 which prevents secret installations and will ask your permission to run any application that it does not recognise.

OK, as for sharing, as long as you keep your private information in folders/directories that LW cannot see, that is LW will only see and share the following:

C:\Program Files\Limewire\Shared

C:\Program Files\Limewire\Incomplete

and any other folders/directories that YOU designate.

NeWheN....

consider the following to be the line in the sand...

you will be permanently banned in ~24 hours from this moment unless you change your avatar, etc....

and yeah, it will be my pleasure to do so

foolofthehill October 8th, 2006 09:02 AM

Sorry, I just didn't have the patience to wait; thought this sick crap had been on the forum long enough,.....others might have come accross it and also felt "uneasy" about it......

Peerless October 8th, 2006 09:11 AM

NeWheN October 27th, 2006 03:41 PM

Sorry about that i would have changed by avatar if i was online and im not trying to be sick it was just a joke. but i guess not im sorry about that thanks for not banning me :sorry:

tom_in_toronto October 28th, 2006 09:27 AM

I get the impression others have expressed their displeasure at your choice of avatar long before this, so I must ask a) if you knew that it (the avatar) upset people why didn't you offer to change it sooner, and b) why did it take the threat of being banned for you to change it at all ?

Hyper-kun October 28th, 2006 09:40 AM

tom_in_toronto, why don't you put your pseudo-concern where it belongs? If you ever tried to understand anything beyond its literal meaning, you'd realize that what you consider an offence is actually sarcasm which pretty much dead-on in the figurative sense. Maybe you should think a while about "freedom of speech". By the way, it's 2006. Crusades are "out".

ukbobboy01 October 28th, 2006 11:33 AM

Hyper-kun

Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom to Insult or Freedom to Cause Offence, I would have thought that 21st century man/woman would easily understand this simple premise.

However, even in these enlightened times there are still backward thinking people who think that to ridicule and insult other people is still "OK".

Hyper-kun October 29th, 2006 07:30 AM

UK Bob, where's the logic in that? I don't see any. Anyone can declare anything an "offence". Have you ever watched a movie or a late night show? Why hasn't Conan O'Brian been put onto the electric chair yet? They could at least put him into jail. Also what about the US president? He's offending people in thousands of ways all the time. Oh wait, is this a privilege of celebrities? I guess, the poor average joe better shuts his trap, right? I demand the capital punishment for the crime called "offence". Or in other words: Kill them all, let god sort 'em out! AK-47: The highway to heaven!

Peerless October 29th, 2006 07:59 AM

1st amendment free speech rights aside, this forum is owned as is not a public place...i.e. We The Mods can do as we will, and we didn't approve of the previous avatar...so its gone...simple as that..

tom_in_toronto's post was totally uncalled for, as this thread is old history..

ukbobboy01 October 29th, 2006 08:33 AM

Hyper-kun

It is highly unlikely that we will ever agree on the meaning of "Freedom of Speech", as this has nothing to do with computers or LW, lets agree to let this one go.

anyways, the setch has been resolved, and if you hadn't noticed I stepped in to defend the whole thing without even mentioning your nick...
