Renegade top todo list

Renegade is a distribution of limewire.org LimeWire client. It supports the limewire.org development without banner ads (hint: please support limewire.org!)

The Renegade developers are looking for the most important features to work on and to add to the limewire.org code. We would like your input into this. We should start with some simple things! We are also working on some powerful improvements to add.

What are the top ten wishes?

This works as a URL too:

Thanks luX!

We could use some more hosting.

Ideas? download list, ...

afisk,

Thanks for the suggestions. Changing fonts all through the application is a nice feature. Some people have trouble seeing and some like to see as much as possible.

I was thinking of something a little more low level as well. Perhaps a download list with repeated searches every hour if not finished.

Not many other suggestions here but I see some good ideas elsewhere.

When a 1.9 renegade version? And would't it be better to put the version after the file's name? How do I know which Renegade version it is if I read Renegade.exe?

Thanks for developing,

Good Question

Carlo,

I hope you liked 1.8c. You will be the first to know on a next version. I want to see if people are angered by any bundled software and ads first. I want to retain a good name for the limewire.org work. Seeing as Lime Wire is doing most of the work, they deserve a lot of gratitude.

I have some ideas in mind. Yes, the version will be in the exe name in the future. Good call.

You bet it! Yes, no particular bugs found for now (exept the bagatelle I reported) and the old Limewire I knew...

Carlo December 14th, 2001 10:28 AM

Hmm, for the future...
I would like to see Limewire more indipendent for dowloading: with swarmed downloads it would be nice to put a XoloX-like searching; so that while dowloading, the client searches for other hosts with that file and tries to add them to the download. So I would never leave a d/l active and return after hours just to see that it has stuck at 3% 2 minutes after I left with the hateful "Couldn't download".
I hope this can be possible...

Greetings and good work!

Carlo

Best feature for Renegade? A new version keeping up with LimeWire. Aside from that it's great!
<p>
Things I'd like to see:
<ul>
<li>Suport for Swarming
<li>The ability to save searches
<li>The ability to repeat searches in the background on a timed basis
<li>File size being used as a search criteria (or at least as a display one)
<li>Being able to set up a search string on a timer, having something that meets the criteria be automagically downloaded
<li>Support for re-searching slow file transfers, automagically switching to faster ones
<li>Support for browsing fast transfers, not just ones in the search results window
<li>Automatic queuing of downloads for antivirus scanning (just an extension of the launch command really)
<li>Autodetection of NAT'd machines (ones with unroutable addresses) and automatic compensation
</ul>
Things I don't care about - skins, themes, fonts.

Agree.

I would agree also. A client can look pretty, but it's the technology innards that are going to make it worthwhile. LimeWire already has some good technical implementations, but more low level improvements can and should be made over silly UI changes.

:-)

Greetings,

Thanks for the feedback. Like I noted I couldn't care less about themes / skins / fonts - indeed I think LimeWire is pretty handsome as far as Java apps go.
<p>
I'm glad to see support for swarming and http 1.1 which should make things better. However in the meantime Ultrapeer is leaving me with nothing. I'm getting almost no hits using it and that is just not good. Is there a roadmap (I know, "done when it's done") for what next and when? Any suggestion for improving performance / hits with *todays* clients?
<p>
Finally I'm using JRT 1.4b3 with no problems, including no cosmetic issues I've come across yet. Feels faster tho'.

Renegade is calling it quits

We have decided not to create further versions of renegade limewire. With limewire PRO available, creating renegade is too much like robbing programmers of their just rewards. I tried PRO over the last few days and it is sweet. Limewire has done a great job developing this program.

Our recommendations to limewire:
**Treat your users with respect. Don't cram spyware down their throats.
**Keep it open source. The community will support you as will we in our own ways.
**Keep up the good work.

Our recommendations to the RIAA and others:
**Get over it! It is a digital age. The genie of digital distribution is out.
**Enforce your copyrights without punishing programmers.
**Open source software can and will be made available by someone if not us.
**Face up to your new challenges.

We will continue to experiment, innovate and contribute.

No credit card?

Hello, I am back! Missed me? ("NO!") All right, then. I was wondering if there was a way to buy pro version without having a credit card... I do not (and don'want to) have one, and I imagine that this is a problem for a lot of users...
