Preference for generous sharers (chat always on)

Since I have a slow 256Kb connection and am frequently 'bandwidth throttled', the ultra-peers have come to my rescue whenever they can. I would like to see a LW application addition (if possible) that specifically rewards LW users who always use their 'chat' smiley for sharing. Since I have a very wide spectrum of music in over 1700 files, the number of hits in a six hour period for almost every file ranges from 200 to 500 (no exaggeration), with perhaps 25 to 30 [B]100% Complete.[B]Do the math...thats a ratio of thousands of hits to one Complete. I realize the primary problem is my slow connection (which I hope I can afford to upgrade soon), but the secondary problem is a great number of users, without sharing smileys, that inundate me with 8 different d'load requests at once, or keep punching the same song. If an application addition is not possible, then at the very least, a frequent tip should tell LW users that always using their share smiley will expedite their chances of better downloads. In short, a tip that appears often at start-up, telling users they will get more download help if they always share! Hope this is a good suggestion even for those who have a 5Mb+ ISP connection. Go LimeWire, caseybob

i share over 10,000 songs so my system is flooded with leeches. So to fight back, I set the system to force sharing to get files from me.

VEGAN: Thanks for tip about setting 'forced sharing'. Even though have happily used LW for years, [B]do not[B] know how to force sharing. If you have a moment, fill me in. Thanks, caseybob

where is share ratio shown?

Hope I'm asking this in the right place (can't find a link for newposts/asking questions...!!)

How do I see what my share ratio is? (and other users share ratios as well?)...
Using the free version of Limewire 4.16.6 on win 98. 56k modem. Don't know what Java I have on the system. When I go to Tools/advanced on Limewire , the advanced option is blanked out.

Last version for Windows 98 is Java 5 release 15 or so. Java 6 needs Windows 2000 or better. Java 5 is fine for Limewire.

Thanks Vegan,

Would installing the correct Java enable me to see links that might be "invisible" at the moment, such as information about share ratios and the blanked out advanced option?
The share ratios are still a bit of a mystery....Where are they...?

It should be fine, you might need to run scandisk regularly to be sure the hard disk disk is not trashed.

Try to find Windows 2000 if you can, it uses the more reliable NTFS file system that is less likely to crap out.

Reply To Vegan Re Forced Sharng And Ratios

Sometime ago asked you how to set "forced sharing" you mentioned in 10,000 leeches post and received no reply. Notice CV8 member has just asked about "sharing ratios" along with java question. I have not ever seen any reference to either in four years of LW use. Would you or any other member please reply and explain where you find both of these in LW (am using 4.17.9 BETA), what they are exactly, and how to enable them in detail.
Thanks in advance, caseybob
