Virus TROJAN

Several weeks ago I noticed a trojan posted as an mp3 while downloading
I thought up a way to post a warning by creating a folder & adding it to my mp3 list. Then using a French translator posting a warning to French speakers that an Amel Bent file was infected. (a while later I noticed you posted a notice about someone had found a way to post a message to Limewire users it may have been me) I have since noticed this Trojan file posted more frequently. It takes this form > (file name) mp3 3,462 T3 or Higher
It seems to have replaced the annoying porn file at the top of every search. Can you do anything about it I know from family & friends just how lazy most people are with PC security there are probably thousands of PC's infected by now.
Since posting this the virus has become more widespread and is now in .wma files as well. All users should use caution & have a good Anti Virus installed
I use Bitdefender 2008 catches pretty much anything thrown at it. Has blocked all infected files so far.
The file size remains the same 3,462 regardless of it's type mp3 or wma
It seems to be related to the porn file a search bringing up an infected file adds the search name to the porn file.

I note that malware generally is flooding P2P increasingly as many still do not have antivirus protection. I suggested a freeware tool be bundled with Lime to help the less sophisticated users.

:super:Thanks for the reply I was mainly interested in notifying the Forum of the problem with the hope that they may be able to locate the offenders. I run Anti Virus + 4 seperate Anti Spy programs. I also run Zone Alarm Pro Firewall which has the ability to trace an attack backwards & notify Zone Labs of the offending site. PS I'm not paranoid really!

There are a lot of people who still don't have anti-virus solutions on their computers. I make sure all my contacts do, and I encorage them to do likewise.

Virus Scanner

you could add a virus scanner to Lime Wire which scans the file you want to open before you can open it, and if it finds a virus it deletes it...Mozilla Firefox have it in the Firefox 3 versions...

Its in the beta version of Firefox 3, I was thinking of a stand alone version. This way a small vendor could get their product in the hands of users and generate lots of legitamate well qualified sales leads.

I have sent out to all my friends who needed it, antivirus tools and encourage everyone to do the same. I use the free AVG and there are others available. By getting everyone protected, we can stamp out a lot more malware.
