Updated Searches

Ok, there should be a feature to re-do a search, since the gnutella network is dynamic, and new people (searchable files) are constantly becoming availible. After a search for 1 name finishes, there should be a button asking if you want to update the search. So you dont have to type the name in again, and delete the old one.

Amen to this.
Re-searching seems to be the only way to break the requery curse--and 2.3 doesn't let you just doubleclick on the Search tab to try it again!

Please, at least, put that functionality back in the next version.

I would like to be able to schedule a search to repeat every 20 minutes or so. It would help bringing the requeries down.

Re-search *is* available. Just right click on the previous search and you'll get a drop down box which includes the option to re-search. This works on Macs too - though I can't remember which click it is.

The search frequency is set as a compromise between flooding the network with searches and actually finding things - Yes, I agree that it seems too cautious at the moment.

The Requeries *are* re-searches. Just not every five minutes as they give the impression of (I heard a rumour that it was every 45 minutes).

LimeWire is requerying every 45 minutes indeed, - every 45 minutes one of your downloads, that is. If you are downloading 20 files, each download is requeried every 15 hours (!). Every five minutes (that's what LimeWire shows you) it will test, if a requery was performed during the last 45 minutes and do requery now, if not.

I would like to be able to have a search repeat automatically every nn minutes. One search for, say video files with keywords Star Trek could find new download hosts for maybe 10 or 20 downloads requering different Star Trek movies. I guess that Limewire does the automatic requery using the complete filename as search keywords. My opinion is that the search keywords used for requery should be the keywords used in the search where the file was initially found. Such a requery could find new hosts for several downloads and also more easily would find multiple hosts when the filename differs for the same file.

That ability is not likely to come. LimeWire is trying very hard to reduce the query-traffic, so this would be contra-productive. There is another feature, called download meshes, that will increase LimeWire downloading performance in Limewire's version 2.5 (maybe 2.6).

You say that Limewire sends one requery every 45 minutes. If that requery was on a search instead of a specific filename, I believe that more usable results would arrive. The results could benefit several downloads instead of just one. But if there is an even better way, let's go for it.
