Ping or speed filter?

Is there any way to test for a "ping" time or filter for a transfer speed when choosing to download a file? I've got a big ole honkin' wad of bandwidth on my end and I'd like to optimize my time downloading. I get frustrated when I select a file and get a 50 Bps rate...

I am also a little confused regarding dowload speeds.

Is the "speed" reported in the search a ping or is it a bitrate? It will make a big difference once I know whether 'small' or 'big' numbers are better.

I also have a question about the speed / ping. But for right now I'll shoot for the middle. PLEASE CLEARIFY

I've just found the Answer to our qustions, it means the PING. If you want to check download two of the same file sizes at different speeds, one low, and one high, the lower speed/ping willd download fastest, do it with a really noticible speed like 50 vs. 1000. You can make the guess?

Ok, so is there a way to adjust PING for having a lower time for faster dl's?
