Looking for help with firewall issue I'm looking for help on getting connected from work where there's a firewall. I've tried the different addresses in the FAQs without success. Anyone have any other suggestions? thanks. |
You need to get your sys admin to configure the firewall to allow packet redirection for the newtella port. For example, if you have set up newtella with port 6346 (the default), ask him to configure the firewall to redirect all packets for that port to your computer. If your company has more than one newtella user, each should use a unique port. If you use DHCP, then he will have to write a script to capture your dynamic IP address to configure the firewall. You should also go to the advanced setup screen in newtella, and type in the IP address of th firewall (or whatever interface the WAN sees) as the search response address. |
Oops, that just takes care of us wanting to download from you. If your sys admin has ipfiltering set to block you when you try to connect, you would have to ask him nicely to disable the filter. Even after all that, you will have trouble downloading from other firewalled users who haven't set up the redirection I described in the previous post. |
I have a similar problem. I can get out and get files. But I get alot of fails, mainly due to 10 and 192 network resolution. But here is my problem. My firewall reports that people come from their IP:6346 to MYIP:61000+. I have port 6346 port mapped to my internal machine running newtella, but my firewall will not let them in because they hit various ports above 61000. Any thoughts? |
