Angry Slow downloads/same crappy files/what gives?

Why? WHY??!!, would people sharing files on this network continue to share the same clipped, buggy, un-useable audio & movie files. To make matters worse, they list their connection as high bandwidth & when you try to download a lousy 3-4mbt file it comes through at 2 or 4Kbs and takes an hour to download (only to find out its one of those clipped crappy %$#@ed up files. Ive had this (LW) about a week & twice, TWICE!!!, was I able to download a large file @ 60 or better Kbs.

MAN THIS SUCKS!!!! I found myself so happy to find a file that I could dl @ 15 or 20. I've also taken to adding "complete" to files I share just so others won't have to put up with this CRAPP!!!

I wait 2 years for cable internet & I suffer through cruddy modem speeds. I'm about to give it up. Oh & don't get me going on the spyware thing $*&#!!!

I agree. All these idiots who configure their speed at "T3" or something similar onlly to get 2-4k download speeds. In addition, now LimeWire wants to CHARGE us for every single upgrade.

I guess we'll all have to go use Morpheus instead

You are really welcome to try morpheus - I binned it in favour of LimeWire. Morpheus Preview Edition is really very, very bad. The new version of morpheus has been 'Coming in two weeks' for over two months now.

My LimeWire subscription lasts for 6 months. I have no idea where you got the impression that you'd be charged for each upgrade.

As for T3s - Believe it or not, you aren't the only person downloading on the gnutella network. In the last 2 hours there have been 20,000 attempts to download from my computer. I'm only a lowly DSL connection and only around a dozen people can download from me at a time. There are a lot of people trying to access those T3 connections. Each person is only going to get a little piece of the total bandwidth.

I do agree that it would be helpful if people didn't share partial downloads.

But I find it really annoying when people rename files so that LimeWire cannot swarm (download from multiple locations at the same time). Nor does adding 'complete' to the filename help because the next dweeb who downloads half the file and shares it will now have a file claiming to be complete - which isn't.

You can generally spot incomplete files by size - there will usually be a file of the same name, but bigger.

all p2p programs have similar problems, however, is it really the fault of the program, or the ignorant users?

Unhappy Its the Users!

Everyone wants to get the most out of their p2p connection and searches. Though they might not realize that in the long run, by changing the settings, they are hurting themselves as well as other users.

Oh, and it is possible to override the default number of connections and then reset your speed settings to your "true" connection speed, i.e., Cable...

As far as changing file names.....hhhhmmmmmm, I find that as being user privilege or preference. Each person has their own way of logging their files. Also, many people will change the bitrate of a mp3 to achieve better quality or to save HD space, thus changing the file. There is something wrong with that?

Chaning file names will be no problem once hashes are in, all will be swarmed that have the same content. Bearshare and Gnucleus have them, so LimeWire is actaully late. As for re-encoding at different bitrates, all this ususally does is nothing or makes the quality worse. I hate finding files that sound like they've been thru a hundred filters. Hard drives are cheap.

I agree to a point Dividend....*L*....

Harddrives are cheap, but not everyone has the technical know how to upgrade to a new drive, or the money to pay a "tech" to do it for them, plus some systems are not upgradable or just cannot handle the newer large capacity drives. All of us are not lucky enough to have a system that....breathes fire..........*L*

And you are right, hashing should solve alot of problems....:-)

I disagree. Why should I keep my files with names I don't like, or names with mistakes?? The problem is not with the users who rename their files, the problem is with LimeWire that doesn't support HASH. Bearshare and Gnucleus, for example, support HASH, and they work fine. Their only problem is LimeWire - Many people use LimeWire, and hashing clients can't HASH from a client that doesn't support HASH.
