Yes, and no...... It does not remove ALL spyware, and there are very simple things which you can do so that even if you do have 'spy-ware' creeped into your machine, it will not be able to send any information out of your machine.

Also, it is not wise to simply install AdAware and then remove every file that appears after AdAware searches...... If you do not know what you are doing, you can easily delete H-Key files which are essential for running Windows.
Always do the 'back-up' until you have learned what is safe to delete and what is not.
AdAware is not without errors. It is also not invincible in it's detection abilities.

Go softly and carefully and remember that it is a simple matter of entering a text message into your Windows main folder to stop 99.9% of this garbage ever managing to send anything OUT from your machine.
THEY can hit you all they like, but you do not ever need to allow THEM to receive a reply from you. ;)

Enter a 'hosts' file.
A correctly filled 'hosts' file which contains non-viable return addresses for each of the 'hosts' which are requesting returns from you for their own nefarious purposes.
'They' ask and you reply with a message that goes to 127.0.0.1 never-never land.

The hosts file, a blessing from above, the one thing Micro$oft did well. You can get a really complete hosts file here and for, what gave me a little performance boost, check out eDexter. It's just a companion to the hosts file and instantly sends back transparent minuscule gif files from your hard drive, instead of waiting for the connection to time out and error, which can take an eternity.

And for those who don't know, 127.0.0.1 is the IP address for *your* computer. I believe 0.0.0.0 works too, but although the 127 is sometimes a tad slower, it is far more proven to work in all situations.

Cheers! :)
