Keep File Names the Same!!!!

It would really help for swarming and file resumption if users would keep the file names exactly the same. I have found that just changing one, and only one, letter of the file name will make it impossible to connect to that user if there are no other users with the same file (i.e. size and content). Attempts at connecting to these files will result in a new incomplete file, and will result in confusion when you search again and find the two different files grouped together. For Example:

say you start downloading file with the title "Most Desired (divx)".
you get 25% downloaded and then the other user disconnects.
You then do a re-search, right, in the hopes of finding another user who has the file available. You then notice that another user has it, but it is titled "Most Desired (Dvdrip, DivX), or "Most Desired1 (divx), or some other closely associated title. The file sizes are all the same, which means they are the same file, but since your incomplete file is not of the same name, you are therefore unable to resume this download!!! this sucks, totally and completely.

This situation also makes it impossible to download from multiple users when you re-search in an attempt to get a multiple user download.

Of course, when there are multiple users logged on at the same time, the grouping function puts them together and you can get a swarmed download started.

I have tried to rename my incomplete files to match what is available, but that didn't work. So PLEASE users, keep the file names the same, exactly, PLEEEAAAASSSSSE.

Thank you.

Until hashing becomes a feature of Limewire, the problem with identical files with different names will continue to be a problem. Limewire CANNOT swarm a download when the names are different, however slightly, even if the files are identical. Hashing would take care of that problem.

Mac users especially will likely change file names, since Limewire takes a longer PC name, truncates it, and adds on letters and numbers so that there is really no way to know what the file is. Limewire does, however, recongnize Mac aliases, which can be renamed in the shared folder window of Limewire.

Hashing in 2.5 will solve the filename problem, but the ID3 tags are another matter entirely. If people would stop spelling things so atrociously, this wouldn't be much of a problem. But, since the all too common belief is that ignorance is bliss, this won't happen any time soon. The world we live in . . .
