I have no idea what I'm doing

Well I am new to this and this is my excuse. I have tried on many occasions to down load movies from lime wire and gave up. Now I have managed to download and even play a trailor of a movie(not very clear though). So I thought I'd go full bore and download a movie. But I can't play the dam thing. I have media players from everywhere but I still cant open avi files and mpeg files it tells me " couldn't open file because software component needed by the movie could not be found" what software do I need? Where do I down load it and then if I can get it to work can I burn it on to cd so I can watch it on my DVD. I have people give me dvds burnt of these p2p sites and I just want to know how to do it. Please can any one help a moron I've been on this thing for hours. I have broadband and thought I put it to good use.

Most files with the extension .avi are encoded with Divx.
You can get the codec on www.divx.com

You should be able to 'preview' the download by launching it while the download is in progress. This should give you an indication if you will be able to see the video or not.

Are you a mac or pc user?

Install these codes, you should be able to view th most avi then.

Yes you can burn avis on a CD and watch them on DVD, but you need a DVD burner for this and a tool that converts the file... try this virtual dub its free:

hope this helps...
