Selected files never download. Why???

I can't seem to get but a fraction of the songs that I want, so I went over to Audio Galaxy, where I was in heaven. Everything you could imagine, available for the clicking. I was so spoiled. They they cut the music, so I was forced to crawl back to LimeWire. Well, I remember why I left, as not only do only a fraction of the files I want download, the selections are pathetic.

Now I got almost 100 files waiting to be downloaded & gee, I get 1 or 2 of them every day or 3. This is a joke...

Then I try and share my 10,000+ songs, and the program can't be touched for some time, as it tries to count over 10,000 songs.

So not only can't I get all the music I want, I can't share all my files, as the program chokes & caughts & can't keep up.

Am I the only person who has these same issues, or are there any others with similar problems?

I also can't quit the program in OSX. I have to force quit every time. Stinks.

The problem in Gnutella is that there are too many freeloaders
who only take but not give. That causes, that there are not enought hosts accepting download connections because they are overloaded with download request.

The only way the problem can be solved it to share your files and let other download. If all people do so, Gnutella would be heaven :)

I'll start uploading

You are correct, so I go back & try to share the library again. Also figured out my force quitting problem. I found out that even though nothing is downloading, and it's all retrying, you can't quit, if you have it set to shut down after transfers. Once I saw that, I changed it to quit anyway. One problem solved, now if we can all share, then we make this great. Come on people, share!

I want to underscore Peerless' comments about selecting files with multipe hosts.. the more the merrier.... I even sort my results based on the number of hosts a file is found on and work through those first - I get a much higher completion rate and often a much higher download rate.

Exactly.
Swarming is a real useful function:
If every Gnutella user would share ALL their downloads
but limit their uploadbandwidth to 10% of the whole bandwidth we would be in heaven :)

If someone has an ISDN connection (like me) but limits its
upload bandwidth to 1 KBPS its too slow.
But if every ISDN user would do the same and you
download from 12 users at the same time you would have
12 KBPS. Now be aware that there arent just ISDN connection but, DSL, Cable and T3 which have even a higher bandwidth.

I persuaded a friend who has DSL and was freeloading to
set a uploadlimit of 10KBPS. 10KBPS are ok for uploading (imagine multiple downloading from 12 hosts using around 10KBPS!) and the DSL user doesnt notice much from the occupied 10 KBPS (it doesnt slow his traffic down.)

So please, please share!

Here's to you . . .

I'm on a G4 Mac sharing appx 2100 audio files. It takes my precious baby about 2 minutes to completely get over it before it can start searching and sharing without hiccups. Once I'm on though, I struggle at times, like you, with many requests before something out there somewhere comes home to daddy.

The only way I can figure it out is to just look at it as a matter of numbers--the more I attempt, the greater my chances of finding an available IP—Do you, or anyone, know if my shotgun attitude/approach clogs up the whole system?
