Default changing mp3 titles

I've been downloading mp3's with pleasure and transferring them to my sony clie. When the songs arrive in various title formats I usually change then to a format I can easily retrieve on my pc i.e. *****.mp3, however, they appear on my clie as **'s - *****.mp3. I also find sometimes the artist appears under the artist column yet other times it is ahead or following the song title. How can I edit these files so they will all appear consistant.

Thanks!

I saw this on Tech TV the other night and I believe you can re-name MP3 meta-data with it. MP3EXT - I do agree with Peerless though... if you want to continue to share those files please do not re-name them in the shared folders, rather move them to a non-shared area and re-name the copies.

I understand what you're saying - I think - that changing the name reduces the possabilities for swarm downloads - but I still rename most of my files because I don't like the crappy shorthand titles and I want to include the bit rate on the title - eg "****** @256.mp3"

yes - that ruins it (a bit) for swarming if originally it was :"*****.mp3" but when I monitor uploads (admitedly in shareaza more than LW) I see plenty of connections coming in and out as people who've partially uploaded the file with its more useful title connect (and yes I know the bit rate can be included elsewhere but its more convenient in the title when it comes to actually making up a playlist)

Cheers, bad_vlad
