I am wondering if anyone has or knows a good resource for info about background registration of software--you know, programs that automatically register your software without you being aware of it when you connect to the internet. Is this legal?

Have you ever read the license agreement that comes with most software packages which, simply by opening the package or installing the software you have contractually agreed to? In all likelihood, there's a clause in that agreement that you agreed to before you installed the software, whether you knew it or not. You should read through a license agreement when you get the chance, it's quite humorous

ok, I searched for the so called privacy clause, but could not find one that said anything. I am totally curious about this because it seems so easy to download major programs through LW and other software, but there must be a catch and I assume this is it, isn't it? Can a person be caught red-handed by this sneaky registration method? There must be info somewhere about this. LW makes it just too tempting, I really don't see how a person could resist getting hundreds of $$$ of programs free. Not many people could I bet, and yet are they all going to get in trouble down the road?
