3 small files found in most searches?

No matter what the search is (can even be made-up or mispeeled words), there is often three files that show up in a group with 4 stars, the exact search name (file types url, html, amd mp3), 64k file size, and "T3 or better".

I've never downloaded them because they don't look right. What are they, and how are they generated? What is their point for showing up?

Ironically I misspelled the word misspelled in the above post. Sorry!

Are you saying that 3 files consistently show up with name exactly same as the name you typed in search??.... for each and every search you initiate?

This issue was addressed!

Please see the following thread for a discussion on this problem.

yes rutro, it happens in about 75% of my searches. You can type in a nonsense word and it may show up.

Thanks Leeware! I did read that post before I put up mine, but they aren't always wrapped in exclamations ( I have seen the sort, though) and I am wondering how "they" can generate the file names exactly as I have entered it.

Ahhh... OK... just wanted to ensure I understood your description. I would have directed you to the same thread referenced above by LeeWare... If that doesn't apply to your scenario, I'm not sure of an explaination for what you're seeing.

Thanks for the info folks.

I am still wondering how they capture the exact file names being searched for, and why the file sizes are so small. I downloaded one out of curiosity, and it seems to be empty. If the files are empty, what is the point of whomever is doing this.

Thanks for your input!

Infected Host

Once there was a p2p based worm it wasn't harmful but self-propagating. Essentially it listens on the p2p network port for query messages and then generates a copy of itself as query results come in. Users who download and run or view these files become infected with the virus. Which uses the host machine to spread itself.

There's more detailed information out there on this problem and you find threads dedicated to this topic.

Unfortunately I cannot recall where.

Hope this helps.
