Limewire connections saturation!

I am running Limewire on WinXP with a cable modem. I really want to be able to share my bandwidth with others, BUT...

When I leave Ultrapeer on, I get OVER 40 connections, and they never settle down. The connections alone are taking up most of my bandwidth, and the rest of my internet access feels like I'm on a modem again!!!

Changing the number of connections in the connection tab (as per the FAQ) does nothing. Until I can limit the number of connections a little, like down to 20 or less at a time, I am forced to turn off Ultrapeer. This limits how useful I am to others on the net, but I don't feel I have a choice.

When I first got my cable modem, I had about 3 Mbps average bandwidth, but Comcast, with no notice whatsoever, has limited everyone to 1.5 Mbps now (which means my average is a lot less). That loss of bandwidth may be what caused the slowdown, but I can't do anything about that.

What can I do to fix this???

Ultrapeers are supposed to accept 75 shielded clients. If you don't want to accept that many connections disable ultrapeer-mode altogether. ultrapeers with just a few leafs don't make sense.

Also, - at the moment the performance of ultrapeers will be especially bad because of a bug in LimeWire 2.8.
