replace pongserver with Gwebcache

I think Limewire should scrap that pongserver app they have on their site and replace it with a new Java app working as Gwebcache instead. That will say can be runned without any webserver and script stuff.

The pong server was shut down months ago.

nop

No No i mean the SimplePong server thingy at adress

http://www.limewire.com/pongcache/SimplePongCache.tgz

this should be replaced with a Gwebcache ditto. ;)

Well then, there are GWebCache implementations in PHP and ASP - why should LimeWire write one in java - you'd have to implement a whole HTTP server.

again

well im talking about an app that the general user can have running on their machines, almost all the time. To have an complete webserver with script addons running is just too bulky.
This would also mean that Gwebcachings are ensured for all future.

This app would not, i think have an entire HTTP server implemented, i think again, runned in a somewhat crippled fashion, just to hold down the resources it uses. Very much smaller then the Limewire app itself.

Also this app should take into the account that most peoples Ip adresses are changed more often. Me for an example i have ADSL 512 k connection and my Ip have changed without pre-notice shall we say every 6 months or so. Im always connected 24-7.

Writing a http server in java is sooo not worth the trouble. There seem to be enough people with webservers that choose to run a GWebCache in ASP or PHP. So why bother writing yet another one in java?

Sleipner March 9th, 2003 05:55 AM

well

I guess i have to take a look myself then to see if i can do something with my idea. Shall grab some specs and the ASP version script.
