Hi,
is it possible to refine the search? For instance, If I ask for Edit, I get Edit and lots of other stuff. Can I look for Edit" and nothing else somehow? I'm almost sure to have missed something, since Ultrapeer overload is such a big issue. Such fuzzy search obiously creates a lot of garbage replies that have to be transported back. Some servents (especially Gnucleus and Morpheus) return results even if only one of the search terms were in the file.
LimeWire can't do anything about that. There is no advanced search mode or anything that would let you refine the search besides adding more keywords.

Hello!
I like it very much that you get unexpected search results on Gnutella. It makes Gnutella more fun to use. Think about it!, if you only found what you where looking for then you would not have discovered the unexpekted extra. When I have searched for something specific and found it and then started to download it then I also usually also tries to download a file or two amongst the other unexpected files( I am on a 8Mbit/s VDSL line). I have found lots of great songs that way that I would never had thought to search for on my own. The search architecture that is beeing used on Gnutella right now is one of the bets I have seen. And also it helps unknown artists getting exposure for their music.

Sure, in general I like the way Gnutella searches for exactly the same reasons. But sometimes I really want a certain file, and in that case it is quite inconvenient.
But I really wonder, if such a search option would not be a method to reduce traffic significantly. I just recently searched for files by Edit, and it takes two or three attempts every five minutes or so to get some results. Retrying really makes a difference here. While I repeat searches to get these rare files, Gnutella has to return everything about Edit again and again. I'm almost sure that our searches push each other in the narrow channels of our favorite network. Last edited by Remoc; February 11th, 2008 at 07:16 PM. |

... but I think I have to ask this in a gnutella forum, not a limewire forum. I just wanted to make sure if it is a missing feature in lw or gnutella.
Thank you anyway :-) |
