is this legal???

Is it legal for me to download stuff off LimeWire? I was so excited, but someone told me that it wasn't legal. I DO NOT want to get into any trouble with copyright laws or whatever. I certainly don't want any fines or suits against me either. Is it even something I need to worry about? Where can I find out what the rules are?

It's not legal to download copyrighted content.

what did I pay for?

How do I know what is copyrighted?
I thought that when i paid for a membership to download unlimited mp3s, movies, etc. that I was doing it legally. I thought that was why napster got into trouble, because people didn't pay for it.

All you paid for was the software. If you want to get the music and the movies legally you have to buy them somewhere else. You don't have to pay for nothing if you don't want to.

It may not be legal but - honestly - who cares...

It is illegal to download copyrighted material, however, I don't think ONE LW user can say that he/she never has downloaded copyrighted material without lying. I'm not encouraging you to download copyrighted material, but it's really up to you:)

you can't get pinned

Look,
Even if you got "caught" no one could gget you in trouble. See, there is no where on Lime Wire that says it's illegal to DL songs and such, therefor, there was no warning to it. So you DL all you want, you can't get pinned for it.

It is not legal to download copyrighted work and you can get in trouble if you get caught.

If it bothers you, don't do it. If it bothers you some, treat it like shareware- download some tunes, if you like the artist and find yourself listening to a tune a lot, go buy the CD. If you listen to it once and hope you never have to hear it again in your entire life, delete it and don't worry about it.

Just my thoughts.
