Total users?

On Limewires website they say how many users are currently using the gnutella network which is usually about 100,000. However lately I get about 300 users (according to the statistics under the tools) and very rarely but occasionally it hits 3,000.

How come we are not connected to all 100,000, and how come it isn't immediate like Kazaa? (we have to wait to connect)

Mostly im also questioning limewire's statement of it being the most sophisticated file-sharing program

Thanks

In the statistics you will not find the total number of users but merely the total number of hosts you know about which are only ultrapeers.

As for your first question, that's because your system couldn't handle 100,000 connections (as I mentioned, you statistics don't work that way). And the second one: because good things take time (a side-effect of not having a central server to connect to first).

sophisticated adj. having learned the ways of the world and having lost natural simplicity
You know a better example for a file-sharing program that has lost natural simplicity?

One other thing. Your statistics will never store the information (number and size shared files) of more than 4,000 ultrapeers which is the hard-coded maximum number of ultrapeer pongs to be saved by LimeWire. Other, non-LimeWire ultrapeers appear to be ignored completely in this count.
