My experience is that sometimes Gnutella might be faster, but the normal way is that I find more sources with Kazaa lite - that means that I normally can download my files much faster. And it happened very often that I find files with kazaa that I couldn´t find in Gnutella. IMHO the best way is to use more than one client.
I wouldn´t say that kazaa swarming is technically more effective - I have to repeat: more sources = faster downloads.
