Simple question about bandwidth

How do I determine how much bandwidth I have, bitrate and other stuff like that which would help me configure my connexion better and more truthfully, ultimately making life easier for others too?

Do you want to know how fast your internet connection is? Ask your ISP!

Thanks for the reply but no, what I wanna know is the bandwidth I got. I already know my connection being ADSL 1024, but I'm always hearing about "increasing the bandwidth for this app, decreasing it for this other app" and I just wanna know if this is just a bunch o' crap or this is actually possible.:)

Yes, it is possible but, traffic shapers are a little tricky to configure.
They work similar to firewalls (in fact, they are firewalls) but they are usually not very user-friendly.

Ok thanx. I'm knew to all this so I ain't gonna touch it (yet, hehe).I was just asking out of curiosity if there was a way to display that number for me, you know, like in Limewire there is a column that sometimes displays the bitrate when it's available.
Thanks anyway.

Now I get you, you want to know how fast the remote hosts can upload? - LimeWire couldn't even give you a rough estimate anymore because that information is not included in all the sources you receive.

Yup, that's what I want to do if it's possible. I just want know mostly out of curiosity.
