Why are so many files corrupted?

I've been using limewire for 3 months and over the last month there seems to have been a huge jump in the number of corrupted files. More than 50% of the time the file (usually mp3) has been corrupted. Why is this happening? Is this normal? If I upgrade my limewire (pay for the program) will the number of corrupted files decrease? Help please.

Are you using the latest version? What OS do you use? Did you ever try using a different save directory, possibly on another harddrive?

I have the latest version of LimeWire (4.0.4 I elieve is the latest). I use Windows XP and I have downloaded every patch and update available. I don't think it has anything to do with my system. The files download, but when they are corrupted they have gaps in the music or sometimes sound like a CD skipping. If I put them on a disc, the corrupted files will not play on my home stereo (which plays MP3s).
