Why can't I view uploaded movies on my computer. Running Windows 98se with Windows Media Player. I can hear the movie, but can't view. Why? Using Limewire to upload.
Thanks

Hey, Sounds very much like a codec problem to me. If you havent ever done a codec update or havent done one for a long time then im fairly sure this is the problem. Codecs are the method of compression the videos use, if you pcs doesnt know the codecs used in the films then your likely to get this issue, try heading over to www.afterdawn.com and running a search on "codec packs",that site is in my opinion the bible on all things movie downloads related, personaly i ran the excellent nimo codec pack and ffdshow quite some time ago, and has thus far played everything i have thrown at it. hope this helps.

Windows Media player will not play certain avi files, after you install the codecs you should try and dl a freebie media player that handles the different file types.

media playing

As a further adition to the last users post, if you still have problems playing certain video files after your codecs are updated try VLC ( www.videolan.org/vlc/ ) which is an ecellent application for playing damaged video files or simply as a way of previewing videos before they are complete, avi preview is another fine example of such an application. As for general media playing i run the free version of inmatrix's Zoomplayer ( www.inmatrix.com ), again, hoping this helps.
