Bear Share Sux?

When my buddy brings his pc laptop over to my house he runs bearshare and gets dl's in the 300+k/sec. I run limewire on my mac and I average 20k/sec.
Is there something I'm missing here? By the way I'm running a cable modem
Thanks!

Your download speed depends on the upload speed of the people you're downloading from. Your friend was downloading from people with faster connections.

Last I checked, Bearshare shows transfer rates in kbps, which is 8 times the kps.
This is the same deal as to why a 56k dial up modem "only" gets ~4-5k/s.

Yeah but just the other night I pulled in photoshop at 800k/sec.
It didn't really take that long to dl.
Besides 8 times my average of 20k/sec, on limewire, is only 160k/sec in bearshare terms.
That doesn't really seem like it contends with a lot of the downloads from the pc. I just wanna know if my mac needs tweakin.
