im going insane

OK here is the thing.....i downloaded lime wire 3 days ago.....i have a cable connection and a pretty decent computer.....i was really impressed with the lime wire site....it maybe seemed a little slower than KAZAA or MORPHEUS downloading audio files.but it was cool,so i paid my $19.00 and got lime wire pro(stupid huh).So i figured i would download a movie.....its about 10:30 or so......there is ABSOLUTELY no reason why i shouldnt be done downloading ***( i started at freakin' 4:00 pm)the movie is now at 59%.......PLEASE somebody explain to me what the problem is....i got the pro so i could get a faster download and prime position .....it never took this long on KAZAA or MORPHEUS.........PLEASE SOMEONE......I NEED HELP OR IS THIS THE USUAL ON HERE?

a: What connection speed do you have?
b: How long did it take with the other apps?
c: Why buying Pro is stupid for you?

daicon418 July 26th, 2004 08:20 PM

I HAVE NO EARTHLE IDEA WHAT CONNECTION SPEED I HAVE AND I DONT KNOE HOW TO GET IT'..........THE OTHER THINGS I DOWNLOADE WERE SONGS AND THEY TOOK LIKE 4 OR 5 MINUTES............THE REASON I FEEL GETTIN' PRO WAS STUPID IS BECAUSE WHEN I GOT LIME WIRE I WAS EXTREMELY HAPPY CAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO USE KAZAA....YANNO ..AND SINCE GETTIN PRO ,TRYING TO DOWNLOAD A MOVIE IT IS STILL DOWNLOADING(7 AND A HALF HOURS)THANKS FOR REPLYING

Look man, an average song is about 4Megs, right? An average full movie is around 700 Megs, 'k? Well then, if it takes you 4 minutes to download a 4 Megs song, then it should take you around 700 minutes (roughly around 11 hours).
If you don't know what connection you have, then I'm supposing that you are not on a PC that is yours (i.e company or maybe university). That could also mean that you're on a rather fast connection, but I can't really say.

SORRY MURASAME......IM NOT TRYING TO UPSET YOU.......IM JUST A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH THIS SITUATION.........I AM SO USE TO GETTING BIG MOVIE FILES IN AN HOUR OR SO ON KAZAA AND I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY IT WOULD TAKE ME 9 HOURS ON HERE WITH THE SAME HOME COMPUTER...........IM NOT A GREAT COMPUTER PERSON, BUT I DO KNOW THIS IS NOT THE USUAL DOWNLOAD TIME.............................................. .............................HOW DO I CHECK MY CONNECTION AND HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE YOU TO GET A MOVIE FILE...............THANKS FOR THE REPLY.

Hey, no, don't get me wrong. I'm not upset or anything. See, there: :)

Anyway, I don't use LW to dld movies very often, but if I try to download one of around 600Megs, with my current configuration and under the condition that I am downloading it from many users with a high-speed connection (in short, if I dld it in max speed), I would, theoretically, be able to get the file after, uh, an hour and a half. That is only in theory of course it is virtually impossible to maintain top speed for the entire duration and besides, for some reason, I have yet to reach top speed for very very large files (meaning for files of size superior to 100Megs).
FYI, my top speed is 128KB (notice the capital B), which I can reach relatively often for smaller files such as songs and small videos. Also, when I started LW, I could only get speeds of around 5 to 15 KBps, which meant dlding songs took around 15 minutes or less (or more). Now dlding songs takes sometimes less than a minute and I'm not even paying for the fastest connection in France.

Anyway, all I want to say is, try configuring LW using the pointers in this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=26906
I'm hoping this will help. If it doesn't then you may want to consider some other things like ISP interference and stuff, but let's leave it at that for now.

hey murasame......thanks for the post about optimizing your dowload speed, but i havent used the new settings yet......i wanted to compare mine with yours first.....if you would share your settings......ok my maximum number of simultaneus download is set on 8 (i didnt change it)....................my upload bandwidth was set unlimiyed i changed it to 42.88KB/s.....take in account that i dont no my speed..............my upload slots was on 20......i changed that to 14..........and my connection speed is on cable/dsl...............................thanks for everything......i would like to compare........................................... ................oh, how is FRANCE..........................................pe ace

murasame July 28th, 2004 05:31 PM

Sure, ok, but since you don't know your speeds (isn't there a way to get them, like call the ISP or something since your on your home computer?) it may be useless to try to compare your settings to mine.
-My upload bandwidth is 30KBps so I've set that to 25K.
-I've set the max simultaneous dlds to 32 since that number works for me best it seems.
-Upload slots are also 14
-France is ok: it's starting to get mighty hot here and the're no sea or anything near Paris like there was in Greece (I'm greek). *sigh*. Oh well, a pool will have to do I guess...
