If you bothered to search the forum before posting threads, you'd know this question has been answered before.
AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. It is a special case of the RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format). AVI is defined by Microsoft. AVI is the most common format for audio/video data on the PC. AVI is an example of a de facto (by fact) standard.
I've never tried to view movies thru LW by attempting to Launch it. LW's media player is primarily for mp3's. To view your movies you'll need a movie player. If you search the forum you'll find some links to free ones. Try searching AVI or movie. Also have a look at the forum rules (a Sticky) at the top of every section of the forum.

Well, Limewire will not play them per se, as in Limewire's built-in player won't play them. However, if you try to launch them through Limewire (for a preview of the download for example) then Limewire will open the player that has been sepcified as default for opening .avi and play it there.
