How come i can't ultrapeer???

I'm somewhat new to the wire, and have read many o' posts on here. thanks to the sheer mass of knowledge distributed throughout this forum, i feel that i have a decent config going for my program. im on a DSL connection 1544/128kbs, 400 MHZ, 192 RAM. i get speeds of up to 100kbs downloading, but thats only when i find a file with say 50+ sources which is rare indeed. so i assume my speed is good enough to Ultrapeer. i have tried leaving box on for a week, but to no avail. i am getting very few file sources on my "network statistics", max downloads is at 4, always a turbocharged connection (6 ultrpeers), and my uploads bandwith is set at around 40kbs(nearly all the way up), with 3 per person, and 3 max slots. i also have adult content blocked, if that means anything. i always dare to share and want to be a part of providing some good material to people. any ideas??

sorry if i this comes as a repeat question

lingo?

may i ask how you compute those numbers?

Morgwen October 7th, 2004 12:29 AM

kbs/Kilobits = 1000 bits
8 bits = 1 byte
1024 bytes = 1 Kilobyte

128 * 1000 : 8 : 1024 = 15,6 Kilobyte uploadspeed

1544 * 1000 : 8 : 1024 = 188,4 Kilobyte

Thx Peerless, Morgwen....now that i've got these numbers, i took Mursanames advice from her sticky on configuring, and set my uploads bandwith to 11KBS. i am seeing fast download speeds.

My question now is , will anybody be able to see/upload my files with such a low setting? mursanames advice was to take 5 from my total (16KBs) coming to the 11KBs, which barely even registers on the upload bandwidth setting.

any ideas?...and thanks again to all

You can't become an UP if you are firewalled.... Look in tools- options - error report-see an exemple. If the line
recived incoming this sessions: true, you can become an UP if false you are firewalled by either a software or a router.

Bonne chance

well, I've been an ultapeer using v4.0, and I'm firewalled...course I properly force the connection via the tools...

though since I have upgraded to v4.14 beta, I haven't been an UP..a change in the code?

What??? You were UP with port 6346 not opened? Did you get 30 leaves? If you were really firewalled, that's a bug. I know 3.6.xxx and before LW UPs could be firewalled, but it was a bug and they were hurting the network. Are incomings false or true in your LW?

Here is the Doc's question: so why don't you unfirewall the Limewire port so you can download faster and share content to 200% more people? :)

Ciao

i was told or read somwhere that this DSL modem has a built in firewall......and yes my received incoming messages were : false...........is there any way around that? i forced local IP on the firewalls tab. but i don't even really know if that means anything.

You don't have to force ip if you are only behind your computer firewall, only if nated or behind router. I don't know if unforce ip would help though.

Also, I never said no firewall, only to open the port LW uses...:p

SayNoToNimrod: if you bought the modem, there is probably a manual so you can disable that firewall. If it comes from your ISP, well... You can always do a search on google about your model of modem and firewall to see if it comes with one.

Peerless what is your firewall?

Bone chance
