I can't connect!

Someone please help figure out to connect! I've tried everything the "support" had to say regarding the whole IP address thing with the ports. But I still can't connect. I noticed that when I downloaded "Limewire" that it said it was going to install some Java thing. But I don't think it did. What "java" do I need? Where do I get it? Is that all I need? As you can't see I very fusterated with this Limewire and I'm begining to wish I hadn't bought It. Has anybody else had the same problem as me?

If I'm to far gone, tell me how to get a refund. It said there is a 30 day period where refunds are granted. I would really appreciate someones help.

Many (by seeing the amount of posts one could almost say too many, but it's all relative: nobody posts to say: "I can connect"...) people have a no-connection problem.
Go to www.java.com and download the latest version of the soft for your OS. (Java is a particularly useful thing to have. Browsers use it for some sites, chat rooms, some apps use it...).
Now, install the latest Java and read the (at least) the first post of this thread. Do as it says.
Does it connect now?

Sorry, I guess I was kind of vague. The problem is that I cannot get on to the network. The pop-up box says exactly" you are not connected to the network. Click on "connect" under the File menu" well...I have. That is the most obvious thing to do. I did download the latest version of java; how do I know? The site you kindly refered me to www.java.com said that I had already done that. Oh, and my PC is not a mac, it's an HP 2.8 Ghz. Like I said I did try the IP address and port suggestion and still nothing comes up. I've read all the other threads looking for suggestions from those answers. But even so, everybody who seems to have a problem it's while they are connected to the network. This is easy to tell because they claim they can download music, play MP3s, etc. I'm just not able to connect to the file sharing networks. I really appreciate your help. Is there anything else you can suggest?

Oops! one more thing. The "error" box pops up and says " it does not appear this computer has an internet connection, or a firewall is blocking access" Beside the windows XP SP2 firewall I have Norton antivirus. I'm told by another thread that while XP's SP2 firewall is on and configured with the appropriate info. as posted in the support section, it should not affect Limewire. And I don't think Norton Antivirus has anything to do with this. Only Norton's Personal Firewall is mentioned, which I do not have. What do you figure?

My first suggestion would be: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=22359
Post back with the results. I may come up with another suggestion.

From reading the other forums, it sounds like it might not be anything to do with my computer. I'm connecting through a university campus network and it could very well be them stopping me from connecting. I called them today and gave them the port numbers, so maybe they will have my problem fixed by configuring their firewalls. I'll let you know in a day what happend. Thanks for your concern.

Keep in mind this check: When LW is open, click Tools->Options & go to Bug report & click for an example. In the window that appears scroll down to the part that says: "Recieved incoming this session". If it says ‘True’ then LW has no problem with firewalls, but if 'False' it does have a prob.
