Saving Files as MP3's not just File
 

I am needing some major help! I have downloaded several songs...with no problems. I can play them on the LW player. The problem I am having is when I try to play them on another player. The file type isnt an MP3 or a wav. When I go to properties, it just says FILE. How can I change this??? Or what do I need to do to ensure that they are being saved as an MP3 ???

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!!

Select an mp3 file, go to File & Properties & see Open with: press Change button & select a player. May I suggest QCD a free player that plays all types of mp3 & doesn't require installation of codecs, & found at: http://www.quinnware.com/

Thank you for replying.....however, I know how to change the player when you go to properties.

The problem that I am having is when I go to find the mp3 that I have downloaded.....when I right click and go to properties....the only thing that is showing is a GENERAL and SUMMARY tab. Under the FILE TYPE.....it only says File.

When I look at the downloading file....it says MP3. So, why isnt saving as an MP3????

It does not give me the option to change the player type.

I have tried to attach a picture of the icon that it has.

PLEASE HELP....IM Getting REALLY Frustrated!!!

This has happened to MANY of the songs that I have downloaded.

When I have a file without an extension and I know that file should be an MP3, for example "showtime", I rename it, usings Windows Explorer, "showtime.mp3", this usually works.

A 891 Byte .mp3? Either it's supposed to be a short file (in which case the audio file is incredibly short) or the quality of the file is über crap.
As a precaution, try scanning the file...

I have noticed, that SEVERAL files under Audio have THAT EXACT Icon. Is this normal???

As ukbobboy01 said, it could be that they're lacking their extensions so your OS doesn't recognise their file type. Why might they be lacking their extension. Perhaps they were encoded on another type of OS such as mac. In mac OS9 extensions are/can be invisible & can also be invisible in OSX. The prob could be a platform to platform issue or perhaps a java issue.

If you become aware that a file is missing its extension whilst you're dwnlding it, you can use the Annotate button in the LW Library to add the mp3 extensionat the end of its name. I guess LW still recognises it as an mp3 whether it has an extension or not (due to its metadata identifying it as an mp3; ie: id tags.) Just a suggestion.

Oh & I think Murasame has a good point about the example you gave. The size doesn't seem to be quite right! Less than 1 KB!??? A normal mp3 should be b/w 3-10 MB. That's a big difference!

Not just that: I read somewhere that Windows will also hide extensions (if the user so chooses). This can prevent a user from spotting a virus or something or other.
