Copyrighted MP3s and Legallity Issues

Well, after looking around I've seen lots of posts on people worried about file sharing mp3s legally. From what I have gathered it is only illegal if the file is copyrighted. Is there any way to know if it is copyrighted before downloading it. After downloading about 20 songs I found 5 with copyrighted ID3 tags. I deleted them and I don't know what to do. I'm kind of confused on exactly what is legal and not. Correct me if I'm wrong but I understand that it is legal to use to download songs though the big and powerful people like RIAA have enough money that it dosn't matter if it is legal or not and can still take you to court.

The true conflicts are between companies... The randomly selected dumb user who is haplessly plastered all over the media as the latest crazed destroyer of the entire capitalist system is just a diversion from the games of the real players.

well post like these should not be wrote,we dont wanna think about how we r ripping off and wtf is copyright lol as long as u r not selling it on the black market and making money i dont think any1 gives a poo poo , keep it to your self u be ok just dont burn of a tune and sell it to the local police man down the pub

GRANDMASTER- LOL. Well I'm really more concerned with if it is really a real concern and is it technically legal. I mean the media is always talking about slamming some music downloader. Is this really a real thing or is this a few select cases where these huge entertainment industries use their power to sue a few individuals and make examples out of them?
